ABOUT CAZ BONSAI
A life rooted in care, craft and clarity.
Caz Scott is one of just a few professional female bonsai artists in the world She has spent over three decades working with trees—shaping, studying and refining her practice through careful observation, hands-on learning, and a deep respect for the living material

How it all started
Caz began her creative journey in the world of visual communication, studying photography, illustration, and graphic design at art college. After graduating, she worked for two decades as a graphic designer at an advertising agency in Newcastle upon Tyne. When the company closed its doors, she saw an opportunity to pursue a lifelong interest—horticulture and bonsai.
In 2009, she launched her own horticultural business, allowing her to develop her skills as a bonsai artist alongside her gardening work. Over time, the pull of bonsai became undeniable, and she transitioned fully into her role as a professional bonsai artist. Today, Caz brings her full creative energy and decades of experience to the trees she tends and teaches others to care for.
Awards & Recognition
Caz’s skills and natural talent have earned her numerous accolades from across the UK and Europe. She is particularly celebrated for her work with conifers—especially Pines and Junipers—which has established her as a sought-after expert in both species-specific care and advanced styling.

What makes her different
Caz’s teaching style is clear, warm and hands-on. She doesn’t believe in mystery or ego. Instead, she’s committed to making bonsai more accessible and less intimidating—especially for newcomers, women, and those who feel underrepresented in the community.
Her passion for bonsai was first sparked in 1989, after reading a short magazine article titled “Why Not Try Bonsai?” The accompanying photo showed a gnarled, ancient pomegranate tree that completely captivated her. For her 21st birthday, she received her very first bonsai—a Buxus harlandii—and from that moment, the obsession took hold.
She is especially known for her work with pine and juniper species, and she takes a long-term view with all her trees—prioritising health, structure and sustainability over short-term showiness.
